Ohiopyle Falls Fest - 2010 update
Thought I'd share the following correspondence with Barry Adams (the AW guy, not HCC paddler Barry Adams) re: Ohiopyle Falls Fest 2010:

The Festival is scheduled for August 21, 2010. We had a meeting regarding access with the Bureau of Parks Director in Harrisburg in December which to be honest did not go so well. However he asked for some information on other parks which we got to him and have a conference call on Feb 1st. Some on the committee our optimistic about this call? Some on the committee want to have the Festival regardless if we get access this year? We will know more probably by the end of May regarding the status of access and the Festival? We may also have some sort of event at Valley Falls in July in addition to Ohiopyle? Will keep you informed or check our Web site for the latest info at: www.FallsRace.com
Thanks

Happy new year (and new decade), Barry!
Have y'all decided whether or not there will be an Ohiopyle Falls Festival in 2010? We hope so!!! It's one of our top club travel events of the year (along with Gauley Fest, Cheat Fest, and others) and we'd be very sad if you stopped having it.
I know there's been talk of moving it to Valley Falls but that wouldn't be anywhere close to the same, in my opinion. (Frankly, most of us would be more likely to go there on a non-festival weekend since you can run it anytime.) I realize that the goal of the Falls Fest was to convince the park to open up boater access to the falls, a noble cause to be sure. But the Catch-22 is that the main attraction of the Festival -- what brings people from far and wide -- is that it's the ONLY day you can do it.
Anyway, we're having our 2010 trip planning meeting this Sunday so if you have any news, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd share it. If there's even a tentative date for the Falls Fest, we'd like to put it on our trip calendar.
Thanks, and warm regards.
